As this year comes to a close, we are ending it on a wonderful high note.
This year we worked with FTD Flowers and the students of Cal Poly Universities to help them become Certified California Grown for the 2015 Tournament of Roses Rose Parade. The CA Grown certification requires that 85% or more of the fresh and dried flowers used on the float must be grown in the Golden State. The effort culminated today with their respective ceremonies and officiated by the California Department of Food and Agriculture Secretary Karen Ross.
Congressional Cut Flower Caucus Co-Chair Lois Capps and State Senator Connie Leyva also recognized FTD and CalPoly with a presentation of banners and certificates, memorializing each organization’s California Grown accomplishment.
I also want to thank our California flower farmers for helping make all of this happen. We could not have accomplished such beautiful feats without the hard work and dedication that goes into farming flowers here in California.
In 2015, I would encourage you to give thoughtful consideration to where your flowers come from. Where your flowers are grown makes a difference. Whether you care about sustainability, quality, local jobs, the economy or freshness, consider making a New Year’s Resolution to buy, local, American Grown grown flowers in 2015.
Happy New Year!
