Mother’s Day is Sunday (May 10th) and represents the largest floral holiday for our California flower farmers. In fact, for America’s flower farmers, it’s much bigger than Valentine’s Day.
Mother’s Day is the Super Bowl of holidays for our California farms, the past two weeks have been a highly focused effort to bring in the crops in time for distribution locally, regionally and nationally.
This is also the first Mother’s Day for the recently launched Certified American Grown flowers campaign, which was created to help consumers who care have the opportunity to easily identify and celebrate mom with flowers grown right here in the United States.
Whether it is the quality, the longevity or the beauty, flowers grown in the United States are increasingly sought after thanks to the growing momentum for SlowFlowers.
This Mother’s Day, take the time to make sure you celebrate your mom with flowers grown locally and if you can’t find flowers grown locally, make sure they are Certified American Grown. Just look for the label or ask your retailer where their flowers are coming from. It does make a difference.
A great resource to help you be assured you’re sourcing American Grown Flowers is SlowFlowers.com. Check it out!
Also, consider treating mom to dinner on a flower farm at one of 8 remaining “Field To Vase” dinners to be held in 2015. These dinners are amazing and a fun way to connect with the local flower movement.
